Earlier, in April 2018, U.S. Senators introduced a similar bill, known as the National Economic Security Strategy Act, but did not mention China by name. Kazianis, the US Navy reported to Congress about the need to maintain 39 fast attack submarines by 2030. In the Western Pacific region, the US needs 30-31 ships at the most stressful time. “Equipping Australia with 8-10 Virginia class submarines will reduce the burden on the US Navy by 30-40%.”
Of course, Virginia-class submarines are very expensive and the Australian navy needs to be trained to the same standards as the US Navy. Another solution is that Australia can hire US nuclear submarines, like India to hire Russian submarines, to save costs.
