In normal times, four adults reside here: my mother, Nan; my 61-year-old older brother, Greg; Daniel and me. Our three grown children have all flown the Mortal Kombat Scorpion Sub Zero Shirt and I love this nest, the youngest a year ago. But two have since returned to wait out the pandemic as a family unit: Charles, 23, who works as a software developer in New York City, and Florence, working for that D.C. nonprofit. (Our eldest, Harriet, 28, chose to stay in New York, with her partner, who works for the city’s Health Department.)
Though we at first hesitated to have the Mortal Kombat Scorpion Sub Zero Shirt and I love this children move home—given my mother’s age and their chances of exposure to COVID-19—we quickly relented. Charles and Florence both live in small spaces with several roommates, and were already told by their employers to work remotely. Coming home made sense for their sanity and safety during this undefined pandemic period.
